HEROIC HEALTH MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY

Heroic Health received an Honorable Mention from the UW-Stout Women and Gender Studies

2020 Sheri Nero Award

My approach towards this project will be to first off research and gain an understanding of mental health surrounding individuals in the military and find out specific statistics relating to how many of them have developed a mental illness, PTSD, or some sort of mental health issue after serving. I will research the best facilities/resources that should be available to people who struggle from such mental illnesses in the hope of giving them the best possible therapy or healing mechanisms possible. I want to design the space in a way that provides various rooms or spaces that will each be designated for different purposes all relating to aspects of self-care. Also, I will closely focus on the materials I am utilizing within the space along with the color scheme to develop a positive, comforting atmosphere through the research of which colors best promote a welcoming feeling.

design concept

By prioritizing human health and behavior, I will design a mental health facility intended for veterans and active military personnel that will offer individual therapy, group therapy, and fitness services.

Goals to Accomplish:

• develop adaptable spaces

• be conscious about what textiles and materials are used in relation to human health and behavior

• incorporate nature for a biophilic design

• make the facility ADA accessible

• make human well-being a priority
